    Hello?

Still swinging by once in a while. Would be cool to hear some news, but I assume things just has been too busy for them?

Hmmm, I agree that caste systems causes a lot of grief in real life as in the game world. And it may depend on a per-group basis, but I don't think many of us play games to just feel comfortable all the time. Role-playing is often about escaping the boundaries of your comfort zone to experience and do extraordinary things. To open your horizon to new perspectives. Becoming an outcaste in Shard might feel bad and force you to confront a lot of terrible situations... but if you portray it with eno…

    Spiral Arena Card Game

Sherbie - - News and Announcements

    Post

Oh, that's a pretty aweseome idea! I had already thought of suggesting the production of a Shard card game, but I had rather thought of "Devah's Doctrine" as described in the Basic Compendium, so you'd even be able to tie the cards into RPG sessions. This is very awesome as well, however! I'd love to hear some more information on how the game will work! I hope this gets enough support to be kickstarted!

I am having so much fun but I was disappointed we have one book among 5 people and your book did not hold up very well It fell apart almost instantly. That being said I love your games and can't wait for more books to come our :D” Hey there bmroe! Oh my, that is a pity when that happens to a book...! I can happily say that the copies I had im my hands were all pretty well-bound... Maybe it was due to a production error (tho…

Hey there DarkLadyKat and welcome to the forums! :3 I agree, it is really awesome of Scott and Aaron to be so supportive! I am really looking forward the new books myself! I hope you have fun on the forums and find yourself a great group of players soon! It'd be really great to hear about what adventures you embark together, too!

In the past, I had a few discussions with my players about the useage and feasibility of the Reactions System as explained in the Shard RPG combat rules. Generally, we were all confused as to what constituted a "proper" use of a reaction Before doing a small playtest with my players, relating to some proposals for rule modification they made, I re-read the Combat rules carefully. I came upon this: Quote: “Basic Compendium, Page 214: Had the player been further away than a Half Move, he could onl…

    Maneuver Effect List

    Sherbie - - SHARD Combat

    Post

Since me and my players were having problems reading the Maneuver Location Table in the past (which resulted in it being used very rarely), I compiled this list with a focus on move types and effects similar to other roleplaying games, rather than in a table by damage type and applied location. I still included all the information from the table (damage type & locations) but they are now secondary to the new format. Possible Damage Types are listed next to each maneuver and next to each applicab…

The reason I made this list, is because I wanted to encourage use of location effects during battles... I am not sure if I am missing something when showing the attacks like that, however! Until now I was under the impression, that the locations said maneuvers are applied to are mainly roleplaying fluff... Edit: Yeah I forgot to show which attacks are Fatal/ Subdue Sub/Fatal...

    Rainbow of Moves

I decided to write down a different kind of list to illustrate the assortment of maneuvers players are able to perform. While it's not pretty, it might be helpful to some. Edit: I will have to rework this list!

Quote: “Originally posted by Targath Thanks everyone. I'm glad it proves useful for others.” I really love this idea! For a campaign where characters travel a lot between nations, it can be really hard to look up those things in the appendix every time! Would you mind if I take the idea a step further and make an interactive map with some more information? I already have some ideas on how to do it...

    Some of my Resources

    Sherbie - - Off-Topic Discussions

    Post

My favorite online resources: Kobold Quarterly While the blog and magazine are focused upon Dungeon&Dragons 4E and 3.5E/Pathfinder, many of the great concepts and pieces of advice can be adapted and used in any roleplaying game. Gnome Stew Another great gaming blog, that seems to be more geared towards general roleplaying tips and regularly publishes some very helpful articles! Ash’s Guide to RPG Personality & Background A site that will give you a very broad and complete perspective on all the …

It does look pretty interesting, thanks for the tip! I might try that out some time... though I think I might end up sticking with Maptool. It doesn't easily allow for playing with a webcam, but the scripting system is very flexible and thanks to a few scrips I made, takes a lot of work off my shoulders (combat Actions, states, even random names :D)! If you have problems with hosting sessions because of your router, I'd be happy to show you how you can forward your connection through your router…

That is a really great idea! Should I spread the word among friends who might be interested, and on the FA & DA Shard groups?

That is a very interesting cult! Does the Sar’Ambhánu have actual reign over the cult, or does she only serve as a symbol? Either way, I can imagine her good education and high responsibility to extinguish childish traits fast and form her into a very old, wise and mysterious soul. A childlike empress, if you will! Ensuring the safety of this sacred person could be dangerous, and carrying out her will could leave you down mysterious paths... Skirting the belief that she could indeed be imbued wi…

I will start off this thread with a really impressive character backstory created by Kyllistin (permission to re-post was granted): Quote: “Linhsu, the big-game hunter of House Traikaen Linhsu was born into a family with a long history in the art of hunting large and dangerous suthra. He and his brothers grew up, each knowing that when they were old enough they would be taught the ways of the hunters. House Traikaen was well respected as one who could be called on to takedown dangerous suthra or…

A well thought out character with a backstory is a GREAT thing to have. Not only does it give you a lot of opportunities for interesting roleplay, but it also gives your gamemaster good material to work with and add flavor to your game! So in this thread, I want to encourage everyone to show us your characters... Who are they? Where do they come from? What makes them who they are? What did they experience? Also, feel free to post if you need help with your character backstory! We will try to hel…

Haha, oh man. Yeah I do know that feel. It can be very hard to convey a feeling towards something you like... but the reasons for that are several: Your ideas of a certain thing might be vague, fuzzy. Try to define what exactly it is you like about Shard and work from there! You have different experiences than your audience. You experienced Shard in a certain way, or experienced other things in a way that led to enjoying Shard. Maybe you really like arabian/asian/etc fairytales and movies? Maybe…

    Remaining 2 Books?

Sherbie - - News and Announcements

    Post

Quote: “Originally posted by Scott Jones Yes, indeed, Aaron and I have talked about doing just that for this next book, and possibly having a separate Kickstarter (if allowed by that company) for both the PDF version (earlier), and the paper version (later), so that one might succeed even if the other doesn't do so well the first time...” Even though it is nice to hold a physical book in your hands, this is probably a smart approach. I hope everything works smoothly. Quote: “Originally posted by…
