The reality is that there will be no new Shard supplements unless they can be properly funded. Fortunately, there is Kickstarter. If new supplements are to be released, they will almost certainly have to be delegated out to various companies and freelancers. Scott is incredibly busy with full-time employment and I am incredibly busy with writing and self-publishing my fiction. That said, I am very close to heading up a Kickstarter to publish a Savage Worlds version of Shard (The Savage World of …

That is correct. It's been 1007 Darduni years since the Twilight Wars. Some nations, however, restart their calendars when a new isvar or aminar takes the throne (and they'd say it was the 23rd Year of the Reign of Kelentos IV, for example), so that creates all kinds of problems. And Sustrum counts their year from the founding of their amin (those damn cats). But in general, it is accepted that the year is 1007 since most of the world's calendars began again after the Twilight Wars. And the publ…

Scott knows this better than I do but my understanding is that a character who has Natural Weaponry can use those Action Dice (based on his Ranking in Natural Weaponry) to attack if he does not have any other melee skills. They cannot, however, use the special maneuvers unless they have formal combat training. But again, I may not have that right. Scott is the rules guru. I am the world guru. -Aaron

This was awesome and you have my blessing to write it up as an official Shard adventure! Scottie, what do we have to do to make this a reality? Something fans of Shard can download as a PDF? -Aaron

That's essentially correct. A Line has many Houses spread throughout a nation (or even several nations). Each House is ruled over by an aryah, a lord. Think of it in terms of a daimyo in feudal Japan. They rule the palace/estate granted to the aryah by the Great Aryah of the Line (or bequeathed to the aryah via inheritance). There are no aryahs who do not run a House, although there can be those whose Houses have been destroyed by rivals and they keep their title until such time as they can rebu…

Nausicaa was a major inspiration for Shard. I am a huge fan of Miyazaki's work and this is my favorite of his films. Everything about the look and design of the Toxic Jungle and the creatures who inhabit it helped to inspire and shape the world of Dardunah. Other big inspirations are THE DARK CRYSTAL and of course DUNE. Glad you enjoyed it, Targath. It's one of my favorite films. -Aaron

I'm glad you find the idea exciting, Targarth. I'm quite excited about it as well. I'll be posting more about the setting and the races and the system on the FB page so be sure to check in regularly and interact. And speaking of races, great minds think alike because the first alien race I'll be revealing also has the ability to change gender if they wish. They are the race with the most developed mental abilities and were also humanity's enemy during the big stellar war. But like I said, keep f…

I agree with your approach, Targath. Unless the player wants a character who is very young (pre-adolescent), I would simply have them limit some of their Characteristics (spend less points on them) and then possibly take a Social Drawback if she's not considered an adult in the culture she's living in. This shouldn't be a high point Drawback but it should reflect that the character might have fewer options or choices than an adult would. But a healthy teenager should not automatically take a Phy…

The important thing to remember, Terralux, is that the rules are only guidelines. We would hope that players would play with the rules and adjust them to fit their own personal play styles. That includes anything in character creation, whether that be Skills or Animal Templates or Animal Abilities, what have you. If you feel some Skills are redundant, then simply eliminate the ones you feel are redundant. If you feel some Skills are missing, then make up new ones to fill in the gaps. Once you bu…
