I have been collecting some exotic-looking, Dárdünah-esque landscape images from various concept artists for use as in-game visual aids. Some of which are pretty spiffy and lend a neat, Asian/Eastern air to the verbal descriptions of our far-off setting. I thought I would share some in case any of you other Shard Game Masters might want any A Satam Stone Skyship gate at an Aryah's palace of a Great House: lok-du-.jpg• This is the work of Lok Du, concept artist from XiaMen, China The seaside summ…

In my games I have always used dishes regional to different cultures that corresponded to the World Guide's entry for that nation. Resulting in my player's character eating dishes like Kebabs of mint-rubbed, turmeric and nut crusted buthan, with a Köfte, vegetable dishes such as a courgette with minced meat, meze and a Turkish specialty called 'mantı' which is basically folded triangles of dough containing minced meat. Almost like a Samosa. Incidentally, with no mammals, I have always assumed th…

I am hesitant to leap straight in to trying to sell Players and GMs on our game when it still carries the dead on the vine reputation that it does in Austin because of it's lack of new material or public announcements about it's development direction, Without some solid and realistic assurance that the upcoming Magic and Martial Arts book will have a solid release date that they can eagerly wait for while they explore the material of the core rulebook. Just a weekend or two ago I bumped into a f…

Reaperwolf, I am moved by your call to action. I will volunteer my time as well to the cause. I've been evangelizing Posthuman Studios' Eclipse Phase game lately and not devoting enough time to raising awareness and love for Dàrdünah. I do so in the hopes that this will prompt Scott and Aaron to finish the god-damned magic and martial arts book for Christ's sake! Look, this isn't the place for that post so I am including it elsewhere in this Forum. It's enough here to say that I am going to put …

I am creating a supplement for Dárdünah that introduces the idea of the Jianghu as an undercurrent or subculture of Shard's prevailing society. This opens up a kind of character archetype of the Youxia, or Martial Arts Adventurer, for play in the Campaign Setting. It also gives players, possibly new to RPG's some behavioral guidelines for what motivates their character and what in-game action their persona would and would not undertake in the traditional Code of Xia. The reason that I bring this…

I've been applying quick photoshop overlays to Chinese MMORPG concept art to make some character and NPC portraits for my short-run Dárdünah adventure. Shard has such a forgiving and generally pretty cool group of fans that I figured I would post em up for folks to check out. I hope you dig 'em.

The release of this excellent work will finally pave the way for my fellow Wuxia enthusiasts to see the glory of Dardunah's combat system and it's fantastic potential to really be the worlds first system to bring you the awe-inspiring excellence of Tsui Hark's finest martial arts effects masterpieces as well as the bone crunching hardcore fighting of Prachya Pinkaew and Tony Jaa's Ong Bak series. Fans of Shard can hardly guess what they are in for with this expansion of the fighting rules. I can…

People are going to DIG this excellent game. The pacing is fantastic, the violence is gratuitous, the concept is rich and full bodied with inspiring ideas you keep thinking about after all the cards have fallen. I really like this tournament card game.

Since I wrote that original post in 2006, Scott's excellent post-apocalyptic campaign began and progressed quite far. It's events have colored my vision of the future slightly, producing these thoughts on the same themes as well as others not included here in this post: Shunde Adepts In my anger at what Lucas did with the mythology of the Jedi in his three prequel movies, my Shunde Adepts are a gleeful rip-off of the Jedi. But with all of the mysticism and enigma intact. I imagine them organized…

I am starting a Blog devoted to Wire-Fu genre martial arts in Shard. My greatest creation so far, the HEAVEN'S SWORD STYLE allready appears in the Magic and Martial Arts book soon to be released. It features such classics of the Wúxia genre as maneuvers that allow your character to run on treetops or water, leap from the ground to the top of a 3 story building, strike a foe with your sword from across a distance without crossing the intervening gap by projecting 'cutting energy' and other anime …
