Well, I've finally gotten the foot healed up mostly AND survived a nasty car accident. We've finally got back to playing!!! The newest adventure is up at the link I have posted in the first post in this thread.

You are very welcome! Shard really is pretty much my favorite system I've ever tried. You did an awesome job with it.

Cool, thanks! createspace.com/3458647 I'm so out of it! It JUST occurred to me I could just copy and paste the info. Sigh...

First of all, I broke my foot and have been either A. too doped up to think or B. too careful to try and get downstairs to where we game. I am getting the cast off in a couple of weeks though, thank goodness. That's the not so cool part. The cool part is that I finally got my book published! It's self-published, but still I'm really excited. It's a sci-fi novel, space based semi romeo/juliet story with utopian/distopian societiesl. There's info about it up at it's e-store, but I don't want to po…

Oh and the bonus is that if people are looking at a campaign at Obsidian Portal and they click on the game system it will bring them to the site for it. That means if you see Shard on a campaign at OB and click on it you will go to shardrpg.com Thought that was pretty cool when someone told me that today.

You're welcome. We own a small business so I am well schooled in the methods of plastering names everywhere possible for free advertising! LOL

Thanks! I hadn't thought about dropping the multipliers for just the minions. My players are used to playing heroic style campaigns so that's what we were aiming for.

    Post

They didn't have any story points left over from building their characters and haven't earned any in game yet. With the multipliers, one of the NPC's got one and that's what dropped one of the characters. I think dealing with that is going to be pretty dramatic and let the healers do some of their stuff in this particular case, but in the future I think I might fudge the multipliers for the NPC's a bit. One hit is enough to take out a couple of the PC's making for very short and not so fun comba…

    Post

Ok, all of that helps. The demo I am running is the one in the intro pdf so the fight is against the gorrila with 6 actions and his band of brigands (about 15, can't remember off hand) with 5 actions each. I basically let the honor guard with the group deal with most of the brigands, leaving the PC's with the gorrilla and .... I think it was 4 brigands. I do have it all written down I'm just too lazy to go find it right now! lol I did the bit where you have the NPC's use up their actions as much…

    wyldkat - - SHARD Combat

    Post

My players are complaining that the defend vs attack system makes it so that nothing can ever happen. They griped quite a bit about getting hit hard after using their actions to attack. The current viewpoint is that you should not act until you are attacked and then just defend which means you will never be able to attack... I'm used to them, they really like the system. the combat is just different enough from what they are used to to make them uncomfortable and unsure. Any suggestions I can gi…

It is similar in some ways to Shadowrun. The success system with the D6's and the successes in combat vs the defenders successes equal damage done for example. Dice being equal to your skill level is similar as well. My husband also noted some similarities between the magic system in Shard and the matrix in Shadowrun. The system in Shard is a bit more unforgiving in combat, which my PC's discovered much to their dismay (still have to post that play session on Obsidian portal). They are in the ru…

Thanks! I just wasn't sure how ok it was to plaster it up on the internet like that. I didn't want to mess with copyright or anything.

I just put up our first game session. You can find it under the adventure log tab. We're doing the intro adventure in the welcome booklet. I'm changing it a bit and we're not using the demo characters. I put in a note that we're using a demo adventure, but if there is a problem with posting it in edited form on Ob Portal please let me know.

Cool. Obsidian Portal is awesome for keeping track of campaigns. I just asked them if they could list Shard on their RPG list. Haven't heard back yet. I should have the first part of the first adventure up tomorrow if all goes well. Edited because it is late and my brain is slow.

Yay!!! Much happiness! Thank you so much. This is exactly the type of guideline I was hoping for. We've finally gotten all the characters made, minus one or two enemy/dependent/contact supporting cast, and are going to be starting to actually play probably today or tomorrow.
