This is an interesting question as well, and I will answer it by saying that when the Great Mother and Father came to the world of SHARD with all of their many children in tow, they found many lifeforms already in existence upon the strange new world. Some of the lifeforms seemed similar to creatures they had encountered upon the original home world while others were incredibly unique. The Basic Compendium includes but a fraction of the actual life upon the incredibly diverse world of the false …

  • This is a great question and one which will be elaborated upon in much greater detail in the pages of the up and coming World Guide. However since you have brought this question to the forum I will answer offer as much information as I can with out spoiling the surprises contained within the next book. In the game of Shard assume that the major races, which I will call the Great Races.... Paksin, Vajrah, and Sarpah all tend to mate with in the many different related sub- species contained within…

The latest response is correct and indeed did highlight some of the major benefits to being a Sun born honor guard has versus a Trade caste valet. I would like to stress the importance of caste for just a moment by saying that there is a reason why it is listed as an advantage and as such must be purchased with valuable character points in order to possess. Consider that all sun born would be socially higher than any trade caste member and as such would receive subtle benefits which might not no…

Hello there and thanks for this most excellent question. In all cases when we present animal templates they are given in broad and general terms to allow for changes to be made by Game masters or players themselves with the permission of the Game Master. In cases in which one finds that the guidelines laid out by the creators of this game do not match with the ideas one may have concerning a particular species of animal (usually after much research and investigation into the physical characteris…

That is essentially correct.... I don't want to spoil any of our fiction for the up and coming World Guide but keep your eyes open for teasers on the forum and we will perhaps be able to deliver some tasty tidbits of the fiction to keep your interests high...

First of all I would like to congratulate your sister on working so hard to get accepted into a college she likes.... So with respect to the title of teacher, you are correct, it is generally given to those of the Priest caste, however this does not mean that other professions cannot teach. The other professions may take apprentices and pass along the knowledge they have with respect to the skills they have mastered, which means that they can teach others in the fields they themselves have come …

In our own games each player and by default the characters they tend to play have human weaknesses as well, whether it is an uncontrollable greed or a desire for more power or any list of other personality quirks.... I particularly love that this game encourages players to be less than perfect by awarding story points for Drawbacks in the game. These less than perfect habits and compulsions help make the game more interesting by producing characters which are more rounded and easy to relate to d…

Also another important thing to remember about the magic in Shard is that for every spell cast there is some sort of price which must be paid.... Some have discovered this fact too late, I say this to remind each user of the arcane, to exercise caution and wisdom when tampering with the magic of this world because it is full of uncertainties and a failed dice roll can be the herald of disaster...

Having been around for the games with the fabled Talons of Kramah.... I can verify that some of each of their own personalities has survived in the secrets they left behind contained within the teachings and possibly the memories of the few students they found worthy enough to entrust with the gifts they themselves where blessed with from beyond the shining edges of heaven... I hope that the World Guide will give us more information about not only these epic heroes but the countless others who h…

I completely agree with you... These two choices are most excellent. With respect to the choices you have shown I cannot decide which would be the most exciting to run... Let me know which one you choose., And when it comes to making them unique there is are a few simple ways to do it... You could choose one of the existing templates for a cat of similar size and transpose a few of the characteristic maximums (provided you have access to both our books and you made sure that the ones you choose …

  • Well rest assured that the Koala is in fact covered in the new Magic and Martial Arts Guide. I will say that they are not slow witted or lacking in wisdom, they are however known to be slow to react. They are also vegetarians. They are known for being some of the most Serene of Vajrah often preferring simple lives of quiet contemplation and peace. They make excellent priests due to the ability to foster detachment.

This was my first GenCon. and I must first thank the two people which made it possible for me to enjoy the experience, both Andrew Bowman and Scott Jones. Secondly I would like to thank all the individuals who came to our booth and spoke with us while showing such profound interests and support for our game. Finally please stay tuned with us for the exciting new products which we are working hard to bring to you in the very near future.

  • With respect to the rules of the game, a Janah with a shorter life span is at no disadvantage with respect to becoming a master of an art, magic or martial, however they would not have as long to enjoy wearing the mantle of master as one of those who live longer lives. The differences in lifespans might be shown in fictional aspects of the game by those with shorter lifespans being more driven to accomplish their life goals, they might also require slightly less sleep, causing them to be viewed …
