Scott Jones - - World of Dárdünah

    Post

Body markings and modifications in Dárdünah cultures cover a fairly wide variety of methods to either color or mark skin, fur, feathers, or scales. These methods can include a variety of different techniques, such as shaving of short fur into patterns (such as seen on horses and camels in our own world), direct tattoos on the skin that either color the skin or cause special dyes to work their way into any fur that grown from that patch of skin, special "freeze-branding" techniques to make fur lo…

  • This is interesting, especially considering that elements of the cultures of the Shard RPG are loosely inspired by Indian, Persian, and Southeast Asian cultural and spiritual concepts. Of course, the purpose of our writings are an attempt to provide the basis for fantasy role-playing entertainment and adventure, as opposed to personal growth or spiritual advancement. We generally like to maintain a respectful space between the specific details we offer as part of our game and the actual tenets o…

Hey there! Finally we got the issue with you no longer being a "guest" resolved! It's great to see you here! Let us know if there's anything we can do to help you access any information or get you on the ground running with your own adventures. As Griffin may have mentioned to you, we already have our first two books on the shelves and ready to use (I seem to recall you mentioning you grabbed the PDFs, so thanks for that!), and we're in the process, even now, of finishing up the content for our …

  • For a more somber and melancholy view into the dangers of the world of the Shards RPG, here we have a heartbreaking watercolor piece by the wonderful contributing artist Matt Spencer! Here we see the terrible effects of one of the more deadly mineral toxins. A sad fate indeed! Djinmür Dust – A type of rare lethal systemic toxin, naturally occurring as a crumbly mineral deposit that has the deceptive look of a powdery brown spice (like cinnamon) when finely ground. Miners excavating crystal first…

  • We generally try to avoid indicating that any of our Devah are specifically meant to represent any of the particular Hindu gods themselves, merely out of respect for their religion, but it would be difficult to avoid similarities entirely, mainly because all divinities essentially represent elements of societal constructs that reflect general spirituality, human consciousness, thought and emotion, and of course ethical paths and reactions. Hopefully you found this little teaser interesting!

  • Since I have read a few interesting recent posts concerning Amnol, I figured I'd include a "yet-to-be-edited" sneak peak of Amnol's entry into the World Guide! Enjoy! Amnol – Amín, land of the red deserts. Ruler: The Aminar Pradhiman, male Grey-white goshawk. Ruling Class: Birds of different kinds, but especially birds of prey. Cultural Paradigm: Arabic/Persian with a great deal of Bedouin-like tribes that wander the wastes, yet pay allegiance to a single seat of power. There are many Arabic/Egy…

    Scott Jones - - Conventions

    Post

Greetings Zlatohrbitek !!!! It was great to see you both at Anthro NW, and I'm so glad you got to play! That was an incredibly eye-opening experience as far as conventions go, because I went to it being uncertain of either sales or reception in general, and was GLORIOUSLY surprised by BOTH!!! We essentially sold out of all the product I brought onsite, and seemed to have inspired a great deal of interest offsite as well! Having returned, all of us here have our noses deeply entrenched in all the…

That's a great question! Essentially, the Academy is open to potential scholars of any Caste except the Outcaste, although even those who are Outcaste sometime find work related to the "unclean" tasks that must be seen to at the Academy. As such, they might find that they are given exposure to elements of the Academy that would benefit them beyond being paid in food or dalán. Perhaps, once their duties are done, they would be allowed to sit outside in some area, and hear stories or lessons from …

  • Here we have another wonderfully-evocative work by Richard Fox, which will be the opening image for the World Guide's chapter on "Commerce", depicting a busy little corner of a marketplace. Here's the bit of text that accompanies it! Enjoy! "Trade and commerce on Dárdünah has been the lifeblood of its many cultures since the most ancient times, keeping the wheels of government, society, and even faith continuously turning. There is a certain energy that seems to pervade places where money and go…

We provide the tools for cooking up new custom Animal Templates in our Basic Compendium! And feel free, if you're tired of seeing your same-old avatar for your forum character, to use one from the selection we created or even upload one of your own! Enjoy!

  • Here's a work-in-progress painting from a friend of mine, Richard Fox, which we will be using for the very first image, of our very first chapter in the "World Guide", which we're madly trying to finish so we can have it by Gen Con of 2020! Here's the bit of text that accompanies it! Enjoy! "My name is Rakúlna, Sunborn and Master of the Scrolls at the Academy of Nilám in Hanálu. It is with great honor that I bring my brush to parchment on this the first day of Yauvánu at the beginning of the bel…

Quote from Reidon: “Even though the cost is 8 I thought it would be the level of the linked characteristic? Mainly due to the idea of level caps and in the rules it stats that the starting value is X(x being the linked characteristic). So if you only had a five agility it would be 5 to start(or depending on the martial arts out of the Martial arts/magic book it would be the linked X. ” Hmn, not quite, let me clarify... The cost of purchasing any particular Skills, as indicated on the Skill List,…

In addition to what Griffin indicates, there is an entire list of potential Skills in the book that each have their own initial purchase price (to get that base starting value as Griffin mentioned), plus a price to buy it up from that at a rate that could vary from 2 to 5 points for each point worth of increase, depending on whether what kind of Skill you're talking about. For instance, as Griffin mentioned, Martial Arts costs 8 point to initially purchase it (when making your character) plus 5 …
