Pinned Welcome Booklet Download !

    • Welcome Booklet Download !

Here's that thing I nearly killed myself trying to get out the door (still trying to get it printed in time). It's the Welcome Booklet I'll be giving out to interested parties at the demo I'm gving at Dragon's Lair here in Austin on this coming Sunday the 27th.

I've uploaded it here in "low res" mode so you guys can take a look at it. It mostly contains abbreviated versions of the kinda stuff you'd want to see if you were new to the game and just wanted a quick taste of it all.

The thing you guys would probably me most interested in is the fact that the last half of the booklet contains 6 pregenerated characters and an Introductory Adventure that introduces you to a fun example of game-play.

      Check it out!

Welly-welly-well! I just checked out the welcome book. It looks pretty schnazzy. It tells a lot but it lacks the polish of a full-blown, marketing-firm generated info-zine you might get at a con. I think it tells too much about some things and too little about other things that might be good consumer hooks. Sadly, we lack the marketing degrees to know what those techniques are. That's why marketing firms get paid the big bucks, ON THE OTHER HAND, all those factors are what give it some charm! It's not the same kind of hype-filled, information-light pamphlet you might get handed by a busty spokesmodel whose never even seen the game in a booth at a con. While I'm all for busty spokesmodels, I can see the street cred that something different like this might generate.
      "Daggra" means "Enemy" in Tibetan.
      "Chora" means "Thief" in Sanskrit.

      Hmnn! Interesting input!

This little Welcome Booklet originally started as a sort of "quick-start" guide as suggested by another Forum Member (Mulefoot), before he joined the forum. Kind of a "how you can just jump in to see what game-play's like" pamphlet..

My problem is that I didn't have the time I needed to edit this sucker well. I just had to throw it together in a mere matter of days after getting the news that I was wanted for this "game-test" demo at a local game-store.

Hopefully you're right, and the people coming to check it out will find it somewhat charming, as opposed to "marketing-guy glitzy". My main concern is that it teeters between giving too much in some cases (Basic Rules) and not enough in others (Combat Info). There's so much I realize later that I take for granted as far as "what is known" that I tend to gloss over stuff that basic gamers may go "WHAT??!!"..

I'll let you guys know how it turns out... (And Ghorüm,..YOU'LL get to see what happens first hand! I'm WAY nervous, buddy!)

    • Well... I think that your style as a game master will make up for any lack in the material itself... I'm guessing that a good game run by you will do more to sell the game than a more polished pamphlet.

    • Let's hope you are correct (not about Ghorüm,..about the demo session...^_^).

My main concern is that once they leave the gaming-store, booklet in hand, they won't be able to replicate it among their friends, simply because I may have omitted crucial info. My problem is I'm "too close to it" to see the egregious errors and omissions...

      Let's hope for the best...

    • Hmmm... looking through again I think it has enough description of combat to get the point accross when combined with the play session. Although in the little blurb about repairing your armor, I think you meant "effectivity" and not "affectivity" since by definition the latter is a noun refering to the ability to cause an emotional reaction.

    • I just realized that the download that was here until just this moment had the older, not as well crafted, pregenerated characters, with difficult to understand martial maneuvers and weapon names. This has since been dealt with and addressed, and the new Welcome Book download has all of that fixed... If anyone needs the better version,..please feel free to download.. It makes playtesting alot easier...
