FAST DRAW is your friend

  • FAST DRAW is your friend

I was going to put htis in the character creation section but this section is devoted to combat so I thought I'd put the first post in it. I just wanted to remind everyone trying to build a combat character to BUY FAST-DRAW!! It is the skill that allows you to get a surprise attack on an opponent that's allready facing you down. It's the old Samurai movie draw and slash befoe the opponent even has time to reach for his sword, with valah it's good-old western gunslinging. You should have it. It's impressive and help you to get the drop on those who would dare to oppose you.

Let's not forget Fast Reflexes, the advantage that every sunborn swordsman should cultivate. Buy it early, improve it often. It is the only thing that adds to your initiative roll to help you strike first. You should buy it as high as you can afford during character creation and see to it that it gets improved as you go.
    "Daggra" means "Enemy" in Tibetan.
    "Chora" means "Thief" in Sanskrit.
  • You forgot acrobatics. A skill that everyone should have when they are in "the $#!+".

Imagine how hard it would be to get a hit in on a pack of Jackie Chans. And much to Scott's irritation, I must also suggest the players move EVERYWHERE acrobatically, just in case the GM has an ambush up his sleeve. So what if you make a scene?!?
I'd rather kiss Satha Vortoc on his sything death-hole

Actually, he did mention Acrobatics in a different posting earlier (see "A bit of advice for those making their first character" in the Character Creation Rules area of the Forum),..and here's my response...

Acrobatics: It DOES help you keep from getting damaged in combat... However,..it is NOT a movement skill, and doesn't actually represent any coverage of distance. It must be coupled with a Movement Skill action of some kind in order to cover distance (or your free "half movement" allowed once per round). Please read the Acrobatics skill description.

Sorry dude,..you could try using Acrobatics all day long and never move an inch. You MUST couple it with a distance-covering movement skill, or use standard movement (or half-movement) along with it to cover any ground,..otherwise you are assumed to merely be "acrobatting" in place. It doesn't irritate me,..it's just the way the rules work.

Heh,..nah,...I'd just have fun describing how constantly silly that looked,..and how often you'd be mocked by those around you. You'd be like a perpetually moving Cirque du Soliel one-jánah show, or some freaky version of those old black and white cartoons that used the "rubber-tube" method of animation, always bouncing and twisting and jumping in place, even if you were in between movements.

It'd be a HOOT,..... and would last about a day or two before your character would be hauled off to some remote asylum for the mentally deranged,...those poor jánah who have been unfortunately "touched by the Devah", and who would be given some special sunless chamber out of harm's way where you could ceaselessly acrobat about to your heart's content, away from the prying eyes of normal jánah who might be disturbed by your character's bizarre physical antics.

    ...You just THINK I'm joking......
