Question on the "everyman" skills...

  • Question on the "everyman" skills...

Hello again to everyone, Early on in character generation the player is asked to pick their Profession, then later, when we get to the Skills section, a player gets 13 "everyman" skills for free starting at rank 3. In that list of 13 "everyman" skills, there is another "Professional Skill" and in parentheses next to it it says "Choose an Additional One".

Question- I have already picked my Profession as Honor Guard, am I now supposed/allowed to pick another Profession, like Shipwright or whatever, or is this where my Honor Guard professional skill rank goes?

    Thanks, -JF

A "Professional Skill" is a skill associated with your Profession. When you buy a Profession, you get numerous skills associated with it, listed underneath the profession. When you get your Basic Starting Skills for free, you get to "choose an additional one" as a bonus, that you would think might be another good skill to round out those that come with your Profession, or would make your Profession more unique to you. You may choose any Skill from the large list of Skills, as long as it has SOMETHING to do with your profession, in your mind, fictionally (or at least so that you can explain it to the GM).

This is the exact place where I had problems with the last character I generated, Scott. (which we still need to go over at some point since the solution arrived at was wrong)

I'd like to just put forth at this time that, to our knowledge, 2 people have had some difficulty with this(joe & myself), and maybe it should be reviewed to see if there is some need for additional explaination in one of the two sections. I'm sure you would agree that if it were 3 or more people, a flag would have to be raised.

Indeed,..I just spoke to Joe at lunch concerning this, and I'll look into rewording it to make it more clear.

However,..and this is something I spoke to Joe about as well.. What I'm looking for is for members of this forum to not only tell me where you perceive problems, but to offer suggestions as well, as to how to fix it. Knowing something is "wrong" doesn't tell me how those who are having problems with it think it should change so that they feel it is "right"..

I need more direction toward a solution from an outside perspective (since, after all,..I'm the one who thought it was fairly clear in the first place).

Considering the way that entire section is formatted and laid out (concerning Basic Starting Skills), how would you suggest the wording be changed to make it clear to you about the additional Professional skill you get to choose?

O.K. for the sake of "cleanup" on the forum, consider this matter resolved by the recently changed Character Creation chapter, available for download on this site.

I shall now lock this Thread, so no more posting on it is possible. If there are further issues concerning this particular item, feel free to start a new Thread.
