Life as Valet
PostQuote from Teenage Mutant Sarpah: “Does kind of make me wonder what would be the point of Valets even existing if Honor Guards seem to be so much better...Like are Valets for those who can't afford Honor Guards? The Discount Body Guards? ” Quote from Teenage Mutant Sarpah: “Did I just ask a stupid question? ” Not at all! It's questions like these that show you are giving thought to how things work in the world... And as Ednoria said above, the reason why one person might use a Valet versus an Ho…

Quote from Otakun: “Scott, I wasn't sure where to post on the forums. I met you at Fur con, you said to inquire here about the art book. I am ordering a couple more of the rulebooks, I have a lot of people here who are excited to play. I am so glad I met you all! ” Hey there Otakun, and thanks for joining us here on the Shard forums! It was great to meet you at Further Confusion! It's awesome that you have found folks in your area that are excited to start playing Shard! And thanks SO MUCH for g…

Quote from Mruf: “Ave! I saw that shipping to Poland is, per one item, only 2,5 greens, or 5 (flat rate). Is such a small value possible? That will be incredibly lovely :)))) I'll take out all commodities. ” That's fantastic news, Mruf!!! I don't set our publisher's shipping prices, so its GREAT to hear that they have set their rates in a way that's good for you! Enjoy! Scottie

Quote from Teenage Mutant Sarpah: “Once again I must emphasize that I'm glad this time the picture is related to the fiction, in the first book the Fiction in the magic chapter concerns a ram and a turtledove but the picture is that of a mandrill...What's up with that? ” Heh! I'm glad you like the match-up of images to fictional content this time... It was intentional for exactly the reasons you describe... In the Basic Compendium, we knew we wanted some cool chapter-head images, and those had b…

Hey there! Scott here, one of the co-creators! I may be able to answer some of your questions, though Griffin is correct indicating that we have yet to develop some Earth animals like cetaceans, cephalopods, and other such "consigned to the sea" kind of creatures... I've had other fans of the game ask it were possible that the original ark-ship of the two scientists might have had a purely oceanic pod segment that might have detached and landed on a separate shard of the world... To that we say …

Hello there, Hyboran! And WELCOME to the forum! I'm betting you saw a well-dressed lion and fox gentleman! It's great that you are getting back into RPGs... They were a passion of mine when I was younger, and they have remained an amazing outlet of creativity for me ever since! If you have any questions about our game, please let us know! We love discussions here, because they often mention things of interest to many of our players... Feel free to ask away!

Hey there! Sure! Such a restriction certainly could be a hereditary thing, especially if you weave it into your character's history for the sake of role-play! I'm not sure we have any factors of how "common" it is in the world, because each GM will run their campaign differently. But my short answer would be, such restrictions should be as common as the GM would like to create cool interactions scenes... Mulefoot will be chiming in a bit later with some cool ideas he has concerning such interact…

Hey there Zashta! Scottie here Griffin gave you a great basic understanding about how the use of things like Medical Alchemy will eventually be dealt with in the World Guide! I'm going to go one step further, and actually provide you and the other forum-goers with a few PDFs of the currently unedited version we're already working on for it! Attached here are the chapters pertaining to the Medical Arts, Poisons, and the Physiology of the Zoics (called "Animorphs" in this earlier version)... These…

That's fantastic! Hopefully you'll have the chance to enjoy not just the main sections of the book, but also all the little extra fictional (and functional) tidbits we added in here and there! It's great to see folks enjoying the new Animal Templates, though... We had someone from a new group here in town so excited that she was able to play a puffin! You have a great holiday season, and a Happy New Year! Scottie

Are Moles Blind?
PostQuote from Teenage Mutant Sarpah: “Thanks, I should tell you I am straight up TERRIBLE at math so I think I would have to ask someone else about that, I remember the vulture template and how Old Wold Vultures had no sense of smell thus for them tracking scent was removed ” That's correct... And though we tried to provide such details for all the different species when possible (plus alternatives when some sub-species had such traits while others didn't), we often made choices to leave such detai…

Gen Con Indy 2018
PostQuote from Ednoria: “It was great getting to talk to you guys at GenCon! I'm looking forward to all the cool new stuff you're working on! Best, Diane ” Yes indeed! I must echo the sentiments of my cohorts here by saying that it was absolutely wonderful to see so many folks, like yourself, come greet us at our table at Gen Con! We had a fantastic time in general, but it was made even more beautiful and touching by the number of folks who showed up to say "hello" and to express their continuing su…

That's an excellent question! Magic in Shard, as you may have discovered, comes in four general categories; the arts of the Seer, the arts of the Healer, the arts of the Summoner, and the arts of the Endower. It is within the last of these categories that you will find the Ritual and Disciplines you seek! "Endowment" is a fairly broad category that includes rituals that allow the creation and manipulation of Wards, rituals that allow the manipulation of weather effects, and rituals that let you …

Talons of Kramah
PostI agree! I love where the adventure discussion could go... And, of course, I find mummies and the lore surrounding them fascinating... There are actually areas of Dárdünah where mummies of that kind could be found... From a well-known standpoint, it is understood by most jánah who have studied cultures in the various countries that in the sand-swept Amin of Amnol, across the river from its capitol city of Nar-Harix, there lay a mighty necropolis very much like the Valley of Kings here on Earth. …
